LT4 396 Solid Roller Underway
This is the positive side of the story beginning in this thread:

The car is with Speed Demon Motorsports right now. Almost everything is ready, or has arrived, except the block itself. The car will probably be ready later this week.
Heads are GTP stages II's with some extra porting work. Below are a few photos.

I've been following the posts about your rebuild. My setup will involve a little trade-off in idle quality, but we're expecting power in the 475 rhwp range (around 550 plus at the crank).
We're using a lot of great parts. Here's a photo of the oil pan:

male sure to check the oil pan for dip stick clearance. I had to drill a hole in the windage tray for the dip stick to go thru (Canton pan) :rolleyes:

Setup sounds awefully familiar ;). How big is the cam your going with? Mine has real good drivability with a 240/250 ~.615/.620 lift on a 114.

Very interested in the oil pan. A friend has the same brand pan on his Z-28, but the kickouts are not in the same place. I trust the one here fits the vette or you wouldn't have it, how about headers do they clear the pan with no problems? I dont' see why it would be a problem, but I you never know.
Where'd you get the pan and how much did it cost if you dont' mind me asking.

Watch out for those big cams on the street. To much cam and you'll need really tall gears or your car won't go fast unless it's pushed over a cliff. It's easy to change cams while the engine is out, so I might suggest a call to Comp Cams or Crane to confirm. Cam fever is easy to catch!

Low end torque is going to be the least of problems with this setup. With 396 inches and some additional compression traction - at any rpm - is going to be a much bigger concern!
Also remember this is a solid roller camshaft, and the duration numbers do not translate direclty to a hydraulic camshaft.

They have links to venders, but they all seem to be places that only sell to other venders. Chris K at Speed Demon got it for me. I am not yet sure on the price.

I can hook you up with a set of solid roller lifters and a matching rev kit...say $150 for the set?
I've already got a rev kit, and a set of Comp Cams Endure-X lifters.

It's good to think about it now. I was planning on heads+cam, then maybe a stroker motor later. But this would have been much more expensive then if, like now, I did it all at the same time.
