Hi forum! I'm trying to install an antenna bypass switch in my 85. i'm looking at the white 15 pin connector . I've located cavity C. I have a brown wire with a white stripe from it not. a pink wire like the MAM instructions say. I tried cutting the only pink wire( cavity f ) . The antenna still went up So if someone could post instructions to help. By the way Frank the MAM "tech" said "Ya the instructions are wrong that we give out. I don't know the answer." If there is an easier way to do this i'm all ears!
Get a multimeter. Find which lead goes hot when you turn the radio on by testing each lead one at a time to ground. You can do this in a couple places. I would do it at the connector above the driver's rear wheel.
Jay, do you have Bose or the basic unit ??
Pink wire should be used on both. On the basic unit, it is part of a 2 wire connector, on Bose, it's a single pink wire.
Thanks William & Dan! My back this morning is telling me no more crawling under the dash! I'll get to it from hatch area. Where do the antenna wires run inside to the antenna?( from the radio to the antenna) Dan its all an aftermarket Pioneer CD system that was in the car when I bought it 8 years ago. I'm thinking it was wired however the installer felt like wiring it. I noticed wires that started out brown were spliced and continued as an orange wire or green!! Again any help is much appreciated
Look for a blue wire from your head unit. Putting your switch close to the radio will save you running a lot of wire. I put my switch beside the ALDL connector, out of sight and little wiring required.
