First step is to pull the battery, remove the keys from the ignition, then reinstall the battery.

Maybe the system will return to normal.....

Don't bother disconnecting the battery, the ECM does not control the side marker lights. The front marker lights are controlled by both the headlight switch and the turn signal switch. The rear marker lights are controlled only by the headlight switch. See if you left your headlight switch in the park position (first detent).

I think he's talking about the map lights in the doors. When the map lights stay on, do the courtesy lights stay on too? If not, it could be as simple as someone pushed them on and you need to push them off.

No.. When I put in the battery I accidentally left the key in and when I connected my battery the door lights and the side lights where on next to the doors. I have tried to disconnect the battery with no keys and same problem so I have pulled the fuse. No radio and that sucks.... LOL
Any more thoughts guys???

I still don't understand which lights are staying on. There are lights on the door by the arm rest and they are called map courtesy lights, there are lights down by your feet, they are called footwell courtesy lights. The lights in the cargo compartment and the footwell lights, along with the spare tire light (if 84's have them) are actuated by the headlight switch (rotate fully CCW) and by the courtesy light timer. The courtesy light timer stays on when a door is open, and a defective door jam switch can keep the courtesy lights on with the doors closed and beyond the time the courtesy light timer normally turns the lights off after one minute since the door was closed. You probably have a defective door jam switch or the door jam switch wire is touching ground somewhere.

are you talking about interior lights?? I think so, because if the fuse you pulled shut off the radio, then you pulled the 'ctsy' fuse, which is for the interior lights, and everything else; including the fan and the radio. I had a long thread on this not too long ago, and I had to pull the door jamb switches and clean them up. I also put new boots on them, and installed a missing door ajar switch. That took care of my problems (my interior lights were staying on).

Just because I put in a new battery? They where fine before the light on the inside on the door.

The map lights on each door are turned on by pushing on the light (it is a push on-push off switch). Maybe you or someone pushed on the light and this is why it stays on, because it is supposed to stay on when you push on the light.

It's not unheard of; but I would think the new battery is just a coincidence to another issue. The door pillar switches get some moisture invasion, especially when the rubber seals dry out and crack. The switch is really easy to pull, use a deep drive 7/16" socket to take out the switch, the wires will twist with the switch. Once it's out, you will probably see some green corrosion; spray it down with some WD40 and clean them up with an tooth brush. There will be 3 wires on the drivers side and two on the passenger side (no key buzzer on pass side). When you reinstall the switches, make sure you pre-twist the wires before screwing the switch in so that they will be straight when you tighten up. If that doesn't fix it (and you haven't just left on the map lights, push on them, they are on a pressure switch) then your delay timer has gone bad. It is behind the bid dash pad on the passenger side.
