I did some measuring on a friends C4 and it's gonna' be close. I think I should be able to get away with just eliminating the mounts like jmrl98 did, if not I guess no more wipers and I'll carry a squeegee.

Thanks for the compliments and input guys.

I don't want to lead you astray ultra, 'cause I noticed those mounts after I hacked away at my cover, so I've never tried it. It appears to be a solution when I looked at the wiper motor assembly in my FSM....

There is actually more taper to the valve covers than there appears in the pics. After measuring my friends it's going to be really close without any modification. I'm pretty sure I've read others on the forum remove the mounts for a little extra clearance as you metnioned, and I'm really thinking that's the most I'll have to do, if anything at all.

Fingers crossed

Was shooting for this weekend, but as always something comes up. My buddy's cherry picker is probably going to be in use this weekend. His Mom's S-10 Blazer developed a he!! of rod knock so I'll probably end-up helping him yank the engien and do a teardown to see if it's salvagable, so obviously the cherry picker will stay at his house for us to yank the 4.3 (if anyone on here has ever pulled a 4.3 out of a 4wd S-10/S-10 Blazer they know what a job that is). So hopefully next week/weekend.

BTW: Did go ahead today and pull the mocked up intake, distrubutor, valve covers off today and readjusted the valves to 1/2 turn past zero per everyones suggestions, Thanks guys.

Also today did some cool stuff with my battery (but it doesn't really pertain to an engine build so), I'll make a new thread about that tommorrow, keep an eye out for it I'm pretty proud of the results. I'll put a link in this post once I make the thread.

Thanks for all the support guys.

No, change as of yet. Finally got the cherry picker, than the next day I got sick (bronchitis which turned into pneumonia) just got over it this weekend. And now I bought a camper that needs some work to get it ready to go an upcoming trip, so it may be August before I get to drop the engine in.

I did forget, I got one thing accomplished last week while laying on the couch feeling like I was dying. I got a detailed sheet wrote up and got my tune ordered from PCMforless. They seem confident that they should be able to give me a pretty close tune mailorder (we'll see).

Hi Dane, that is the balance sheet for your specific configuration of parts you have selected. Heavier rods or pistons would have changed things. I would keep it for future reference if you need to change a piston down the road. But it really only applies to your specific combo.

And the 383 is looking good... especially with some 195's You will love the extra torque of the stroker.

This thing should kick some azz!

AFR 195's
Comp cams 268 xfi (218 I 224 E .570 I .565 E 113 LSA)
Hooker 2151's into custom 2.5" dual
Heavily ported Accel base, siamesed SLP runners and plenum
383 short-block with about 10.75-1 compression (I originally intended on a 350, but when pulling out my cam for the swap last month I found out the bearings were wiped)
This is being routed through a ZF6 with stage 2 clutch and SM aluminum flywheel and D44 w/3.45's

I know some think it's nuts to use the LTR intake, but I think it should make for a fun to drive car. All sims I've run show this combo to pull to 5500rpm and make around 425hp and 525-550 ftlb at the crank. These numbers should make for a great street car and still tickle the 11's on the track with some traction(which still makees it faster than most of whats on the street). I've run the same sims on the same setup except switched out to a MR intake and yes I pickup quite abit, like numbers change to almost 500hp at the crank and torque drops to 470 ftlb at the crank and puts me running low 11's but it also puts me spinning up to 6500-6700 rpm and gets me worrying about longivity.
Did you get the upgraded srings on the 195s? I've heard different opinions on whether they should be with the higher lift cam. I'm really interested in how yours comes out. The build I'm working on is almost identical. The only real difference is that I will use a SR intake that I picked up on eBay. Your build looks great and you are obviously taking your time to do it right.

No, I just went with the standard springs, they should be good to .600 and the 268 cam with the 1.6 rockers only give lift numbers of .570 I and .565 E and especially staying with the LTR intake I shouldn't turn over 5500rpm so I'm not too worried about valve float.

BTW thanks for the compliments.

What do you mean by "Heavier rods or pistons would have changed things" ?

Thanks for the compliments.

I just meant that heavier rods or pistons they would be taking less weight off the counterweights of the crank or possibly adding mallory metal to balance it.

Edit: my experiance building 383's if you have a cast crank your better off to external balance the motor, and with forged cranks, the metal is more dense, and you can internal balance it. I have tried to internal balance a cast crank 383 before, and ended up using alot of mallory metal to do it. The balance job was more than the cost of a nice 4340 forged crank. In our area, mallory metal is $100 a stick.

My builder had to add mallory to my forged crank

Blower pistons with 5.7 forged 5.7 rods, internally balanced.

Default Overdue update

I know it's been awhile since I've updated this thread and that's been because there were no updates to make. The past couple months have been extremely busy between getting a new job and too many things to bore everyone with.
Well I finally had a free weekend and made some pretty substantial progress.
Stripped engine back down for installation, installed long block.
Installed FW, clutch, ect and got the new tranny w/new Hurst shifter and freshly balanced driveshaft with new yoke and u-joints.
Headers on and Frankenstein exhaust installed
Most of the accessories are on
All the braces underneath on
Misc sensors, brackets, ect on

In the last pic I temporarlily installed the drivers V/C as I know some people are having trouble with wiper motor clearance and a couple of members who had posted in this thread had shown concern for my setup with the tall V/C I'd chosen .
As you can see with no mods or changes I can fit my hand between the motor and V/C (3/4"-1" of clearance), guess I got lucky.
