Default Air Conditioner Question

I have an 84. When I turn on the A/C, air not only comes out of the dash vents, it also comes out where I think the heat some come out (up under the console by the firewall).

If you have an 84 or 85 or similar, would you please check your A/C and see if it does the same.

Thanks.

Sounds like vent doors are not working properly. I only get AC from the dash vents. Good luck

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was afraid that was what was wrong. I have all of the valves but have not wanted to tear into it. Guess I have no choice now.

Due to hot floor complaints with prior Vettes, the C4 is designed to throw a small amount of a/c through the heater ducts (and the defrost ducts to keep the windshield clear). Should be outlined in your Owner's Manual. If it's a fairly small amount, it's normal. If it's a torrent, you'll need to check the solenoid for the heater door. It's not a bad job - they're on the left side of the heater box and you'll need to remove the Driver's side hush panel. GM usually color codes the heater solenoid vacuum hose red. Make sure it'll hold about 10 inches of vacuum. If so, it's either the hose or more likely, the Control Panel. When you turn the ****, it uncovers vacuum ports so that vacuum is directed to the appropriate solenoid.
