Default which bolt goes where

Ok i screwed up a bit. I didnt mark down which bolts go where on the heads to attach to the block. 89 L98 113 alum heads.

I have 3 sizes of bolts, short medium and long. In my Haynes manual has the holes numbered. I went into paint and recreated the photo.

IIRC the small bolts go along the bottom where the header attach's i just dont recall where the medium and larges go.

what im asking is if someone who knows could tell me which numbers the longer bolts and the medium size bolts go into that would be awesome.

thanks guys!

I'm comfused by the drawing.

Doing this by memory:
The shortest bolts go down by the plugs.
You should have only 2 lengths left at this point and more of one length than the other. The ones you have the most of now should go in the row just below the springs and on the ends (front and rear of head) of the heads. The remaining bolts should go in the area around the pushrods.

Hope this helps.

the drawing is what was in the manual. thing is i bought new bolts from ARP or watever and theres 14 long screws and 4 medium screws and a assload of the smaller ones for the headers. somewhere along the line all my origional screws decided to go AWOL or get mixed up where they dont belong. (hince the new screws)

thanks for the help ill wait to see what else is posted to be on the safe side

I've been doing the rebuild thing rescently......I've got my heads pulled right now and all the hardware is bagged and tagged. I'd go look but the bags are all loaded with grease oil and dirt and not easily accessible at the moment. But a second opinion from another member is wise to be on the safe side.

ok, the short ones go outside the rocker covers down by the plugs.
the medium ones are at each end of the head inside rocker covers
the long ones go in the area around the springs. inside rocker covers
header bolts are a different size altogether.

ok i'll play the game, medium ones are at 17 and 14
13, 9, 5, 1,2,6, 10 are around the springs, and are the long ones
Just remember, there's 5/8-3/4 inch of bolt sticking up out of the hole if it's in the right place without turning it into any threads.
