How much oil is being burnt over how many miles? A big cam will burn a little bit of oil, but its a quart or more over 3000 miles and you didnt do anything else to the engine, something is probably wrong.
if you change your valve seals, it will go away. By changing cams (going to a bigger lift cam) you have disturbed the normal old seal area, and have now made the cam push the valves further into the valve seals, with the varnish on the valves eroding the seal surface.
after removing the spring to change the seal, be sure to remove the edges of the keeper area on the valve stem prior to installing the new seals on the valve with a ultra fine file. Then use scotchbrite to remove the oil residue that wiped out the previous seals.
Thanks, makes perfect sense. Wouldn't an A mechanic know something like that? In any case, my mechanice didn't, and I can only blame myself. Thanks again.
