I would think it is the high pressure hose, Could also be the power steering pump itself...maybe cracked or something, But check the hoses first...

I'm just now inspecting under mine. There is a large hose that connects to the underside of the pump...that is the wet spot on mine. All the pressure lines are dry.

So I'm not sure if the pump is leaking or if it is that large hose the looks like a large upside down question mark that hooks under neath....but there is no way of getting a hand in there it is so tight.

Agent 86... do you have one of those nifty .pdfs for me on this subject?

Damn, that pdf isn't really that helpful as far as a hose diagram.

Is there another Tech write up for Power Steering?

I would check the reservoir first. Check the inlet and outlet hoses to the reservoir. Those problems are cheap and easy to fix.

I just had a leak fixed. It was the pump. It wasn't a big deal to fix. Napa had the pump. The high pressure hoses looked original so I changed them too.

That sounds like the outlet hose. It connects from the reservoir to the pump. You'll need to disconnect it from the top at the reservoir and get under it for the pump connection.

My outlet hose was wet too but the pump failed a dye test. The fluid was leaking from the pump and spilling onto the hose.

The parts will run about $200.00. Ecklers has the parts but Napa might be a better deal.

I don't have a lift or ramps. My mechanic charged me 1.5 hrs.

Check the metal rack-to-reservoir pipe, too. Mine failed at the fitting on one end, resulting in a red menace like you're describing.

A pump whine is usally a sign of low fluid. Check the reservior and hoses the others spoke of. The rebuilt pump listed below is pretty cheap once you return your core. Just bought one of these myself...but have yet to install it.

If you buy parts from Napa always ask them if they accept "AAA" card as a discount off the purchase price. Often times this will knock 10-15% off the price you'd pay if you didn't ask about some type of discount. This can save you a ton of $ if your buying lots of parts.

This one bothers me, just to help out, don't waste time on the ramps. If your garage floor is smooth like mine you'll have trouble.

Mine would shoot forward out from under the wheels when weight got on them.......I threw them away.

I was successful only one time getting my car up on the ramps....I had to tape them to the floor in a way that my tire ran up the tape and onto the ramps. The tape broke on the way down and the ramp shot out and hit the washer machine.

I bought a 3 ton floor jack that raises up to "22 just a few weeks ago at Harbor Freight. It was tagged as $79 but they rang up $69....

The Ramps were ~$30ish????

So, just get the floor jack...it is much safer...and if you know where to place it....the whole side of the car comes up when you jack.....you can place two jack stands at the same time.

Don't leave your car on the jack....as my old jack "let go" while I watched in horror......the car came down pretty quick with a swishing sound as the seal gave way...that old jack went in the trash as well......good thing I was sitting in my chair watching TV when that seal let go.......

The high pressure hose is the weak link.
