Default General engine temp?

What is the correct engine temperature for a 92 lt-1? I think mine is running hot. I just bought the car and had the dealer check it over and they replaced the resivore because it was cracked and then flushed the system. im wondering if they followed the steps in the manual or just did a run of the mill flush like they would on other cars. also i found that my cork gasket in the coolent tank is missing. any help is greatly appreciated! As it is im afraid to drive it because i dont want to hurt it.

Under 230 is usually considered safe. Exactly where it will run can depend on other variables. Outside temp, driving style/conditions, condition of coolant system, etc..

You need to make sure your radiator is free of road debris, leaves, grass, bugs, etc. Make sure there is no air in the system. If there is it needs to be burped further. Also make sure the front spoiler is installed and in good shape.

There are a few coolant mods you can do if you feel you want it to run cooler. Here's what I have..

Meziere HD Electric Water Pump
Hypertech 160 stat
PCM Tune with fans programmed to turn on earlier
Dewitt larger capacity Radiator
Yearly coolant flush and maintenance
B&M external Transmission Cooler

The combination of thermostat and PCM programming probably made the most noticeable difference.

A few guide lines

On the highway and moving a digital reading of 200* or less is normal.
In traffic this time of year it will climb into the 200 + teens quickly. You should remain under 228* in stop and go if its not to slow.

You’re A/C will probably be on so just check to make sure your primary fan (drivers side) is turning always. This will probably keep the temp under 230* all the time in normal driving conditions.

Getting up to 240 would not be comfortable and further investigation would be required to make sure secondary fan is working properly. (Does not come on till 239*).

All relative to outside air temperatures. Above 95* outside and things are going to get hotter faster and run a bit hotter all around.
