Default Milling 113 heads

my machinist had to take .030 off my 113's because of the warping around the seventh water port hole. IS the .030 a safe amount to mill off a 113 head?

One member I know in this forum had his done that amount. 1 yr later, he lost a head gasket. But, that was attributed to the multiple 1010 Felpro gasket failures (which he was using). Personally, I don't believe it was the milling.

FYI: There are companies that will mill that much off new heads to get smaller chamber sizes -- and I'm talking smaller than 56cc (like 53, 54, 55cc...). Check with other cylinder head shops. See if you can find one that says .030" is a problem.

Worst problem I can see is it brings your front & rear china walls about that much closer to the block. You might need to skip using those gaskets and go with 100% silicone.

I had already planned on going to a thicker head gasket so the a future head swap would be slightly easier, realizing that I would have to mill on something like a 64cc chamber quite a bit to keep compression similar to what I am going to have with the milled 113's

Head gasket failures is something I had heard rumors about from taking a head down too far. I just thought I'd double check with all the members here which seem to have a ton of 113 specific experience

The stock head gasket is plenty thick @ .051". I take it you're redoing the bottom end. Are you going with flat-tops or something?

the problem with over cutting a 113 is the intake valve. It sits very close to the surfaced area and if you mill them too much you can easily weaken the seat area.

Are you offering a guideline for how much they can be milled?

Nope just saying I don't think 30 is doable and if you could by cutting to much wouldn't you alter the angle of the intake port area and its ability to seal. I think these were cut to 20 thousandth's I'm not sure been awhile since I had them done. You can see how close it is now to the valve.
