Hi,

does anybody know what difference between this two gaskets is?
Both are PermaTorqueMLS and 0.039 thick. For me the only difference is the bore diameter ...
Is this the only reason why the 1010 costs $25 more? Or are there technical pros for the 1010?

I want to install the gaskets on my 4.030 bored 383 with AFR heads. Any cons against the Felpro MLS gaskets?

They like a real clean smooth surface, once torqued thats it, dont try and pull them off and reuse them.

 

I used the 1144 Fel-Pro MLS gaskets in my 408 after my machine shop meticulously prepared the head and deck surfaces with the RA finish specified by FP and after putting everything together I had an oil leak at the back of the block on both sides from oil wicking through the gasket from the rear drain back holes. My owner of the machine shop didn't believe me until he saw it too (thanks to UV dye). I called Cometic just to get their opinion and the tech guy on the phone told me that "yeah, our Small Block gaskets may leak some oil through the layers of the gasket..." ..huh, you have problems sealing a Small Block Chevy?? I thought that was pretty strange since oil returning back through the heads is not under any pressure. So, I tore everything back apart and used the regular Fel-Pro performance gaskets and that was that...no more leaks. I know guys that use the MLS style gaskets on big HP LS motors and never have a problem but the fact that Cometic acknowledged this right away told me that this is not an uncommon occurrence with small block engines told me MLS must not be the hot ticket here.
