I am shocked. I would have thought, at best, the insurance company would have balked at even half this amount. Not saying the car wasn't worth it, just we all know how insurance comapnies can be.
I am also shocked that you got that amount. how did the conversation go for you to convince them that your vette' was worth more? just curious so I know for future reference.
Are you still planning on buying it back and parting it out?
I was also in a wreck with my 84 vette back in January.. Was only going about 35-40mph, when a pick em up truck pulled out in front of me.. He said he didn't see me but my car was nearly totaled.. Long story short they hauled me away in a ambulance with 3 cracked ribs and a concusion... Obviousley my car didn't have airbags and I wasn't wearing my seat belt... Got out a few days later, and decided to go and hang out with the boys and ended up having seziures from my concusion... Be very careful and be SURE your ok... A car is replacable YOUR NOT....
Well, basically, they tried to find CE Convertibles for sale through-out the country that were in the condition mine was in. They couldn't find a single one for sale. (Not sure where they were looking).
So, corporate told the adjuster to offer me excellent retail on a standard 96 Vert, which is like 12.5k.
When the adjuster told me this I laughed. I said "dude, if you guys can't find one for sale, what makes you think i'll be able to find one, and I certainly won't be able to buy one for 12.5k." And yes, I really called him "dude". He said "I knew you were going to say that." He said he couldn't come anywhere near what the car deserved (29k according to NADA). I asked him to shoot me a number. He came at me with 16k. I said I wanted 19k but would meet him in the middle. He said okay.
I watched a commercial with the lizard a day ago and the lizard claimed that GEICO had 97 percent customer satisfaction rating and they are not kidding. This could not have been easier. I've been a GEICO customer for less than 6 months (I left Progressive after a decade) and so far, it's been the perfect decision.

I'm going to buy a yellow c5 or c6 next year.
I think you were pimped to get the price down from the $20k you hoped to get. You settled and are happy. Guess that's good -- at least you got what YOU thought it was worth!
You misunderstand. I hoped to get 14k. And c'mon what idiot here would pay 16k for my car when you could get a very nice c5 for that. I got 17.5 it's way more than I could have possibly sold that car for.
I can do you one better than that. A week before I got married I lost control of a 300zx doing 120 and snapped a telephone pole in half. Powerlines came down across the car. And we all three walked out of that one without a scrape. The car didn't survive.
My wife married me anyway. Yes, she was the one sitting in the trunk area.
