Hey guys, I got t-boned today in the driver side. It practically cut my door in half. I'm okay, airbags deployed but I got a decent bump on my forehead.
Question is...
The driver's side is definately screwed. But if you go to the otherside of the car all of the joints between hood and door, convertible lid and fenders, etc, all the seems are all boogered. Do you guess this car has frame damage? The car that hit me was travelling about 50. The convertible top will not line up to fasten, the doors are stuck shut. Are these cars usually totalled at this point? Any guesses?
Totalled in the sense that insurance companies use the word means that repair cost is greater than 75% of vehicle value.
My guess is that your car needs repairs that will prompt the insurance company to want to total it.
You should start preparing evidence of your car's true value. It isn't just a C4 or even just a '96. It is a premium for being a vert and for being a CE. Start looking at what similar cars have sold for. Choose a value that you will accept for your car. Even if the insurance company offers you that ammount, don't swing at the first pitch. If they offer you $1 million you should reply, "that is too low, sorry"
Well, when Geico attempted to steal me away from Progressive we had lengthy conversations about how well my corvette would be protected. They told me that for a little extra, I could be insured for 25% of fair market value (based on NADA and KBB). So, NADA values my CE at 16k. 25% over that is 20k. I'll be happy with that number.
I'm just hoping they don't try to repair it, and do a crappy job. Being stuck with crooked CE isn't my idea of good.
Okay, I just spoke with Geico, they are going total the vette. They haven't given me a figure yet. They told me they absolutely could not sell me the wreck. If I wanted it I would have to go to the auction and buy it. That blows.

strip some valuables out of it, unless you don't have it anymore....
thats why i don't carry comp and collision on mine, i would just have to buy it back or not and strip my parts out of it, if they stole it i would never get what i put in it.
Glad you're OK. There's always another vette. There's never another you.
Boy ain't that the truth. There is an old Irish expression that says " May the Lord take a likin' to you, but not too soon", Glad he's a "friend of yours". Keep us posted on the insurance results and don't hesitate to get yourself checked out if ANYTHING is not normal. Better safe than sorry. Good luck in all respects my friend.
Looks like we're going to see if that little green lizard's company is worth a sh*#. I saw a LT4 and 6 speed tranny go for $4000 and it was stock. You should be able to get more than that just for the engine. Where is the auction?
