Pull the code by short across pins A and B on ALDL connector (first 2 pins on top right of connector) and read codes fron check engine light. It should read 1 the 2 three times then it will count the codes from there. CFI-EFI correct me in the number of 1 and 2 before error codes are displayed. Then give us that information. CFI-EFI is correct unless that was really bad gas and still shouldn't give up a code. Get back to us.

That is correct. Every code will flash, appear, three times. The code "12" will appear three times. Then the first code will appear three times. The second code will follow the first, again three times. When it flashes a "12" again, it has displayed all the codes set. If you missed something or want to double check, the codes will still be there if you want to run through them again. We know he has a code set because of the check engine light, but when just checking without the CE light, when the code "12" flashes the 4th time, you know you have no codes set. It will always flash the code "12". If it doesn't, consult your FSM.

There is no gas bad enough to set a code. How? What sensor reading what condition?
Only one I would even possibly think of would be O2 sensor but like CFI-EFI has stated it could only happen when pigs fly. What is idle speed in neutral and does it last a few seconds once in gear or straight to shut off?
