Engine power lost under load.
Need Help!! Under heavy accleration in 5th and 6th gear the engine seems to loose power and the car shakes and shutters. At the time this occures a sound simular to a spark knock can be heard. When I back off the accelerator the car runs fine. On some occasions there seems to be a slight engine miss at idle. The problem appears to be getting worse. However, there is no shortage of power in taking off from a dead start! Any ideas?

I hope you have about $600 free .. sounds to me like your opti is on the way out! :( . It won't take long for it to start doing that around 4k .. then 3k .. and then lower and lower and lower.
My bet is that if you feel along the bottom side of your waterpump it'll be slightly wet. Does it sound like pop-corn under the hood? That's the noise that i got from mine .. that's major knock and misfiring caused by the opticrap sparking at the wrong time.
the opti-crap will be about $350 and the waterpump will be around $150.
Let me know if ya need any more help with this, i just replaced both my waterpump and opticrap about 8 months ago.

Yep, I agree with Glock - it sounds ignition related. If you want you might go ahead and do plugs and wires now - it could possibly be an old plug or burnt wire. If it's your original opti that could very likely be the culprit. Definitely a good idea to check if the waterpump is leaking out the weep-hole.
