Default Underhood temps

1) There is speculation that air flow is the primary driver of C4's running hot. That is also why people turn on the fans at lower temps.

2) I've heard that high-quality ceramic headers (e.g. Jet-Hot) can cut underhood temps by half according to users in other applications, not the manufacturers.

3) I've read a few threads regarding the hood scoops in this forum for increasing airflow.

4) I know that a lower temp thermostat in conjunction with the fans is a good way of reducing operating temps. I am keeping the stock thermostat for gas mileage and prefer to keep my fans as a "last-ditch" mechanism so they do not prematurely wear out.

My question is, does anybody have any data on how effective #2 and #3 are in reducing operating temps? It's possible that they may be great at reducing underhood temps and do nothing for operating temps... which may still be worth the effort.

#2 No hard data, but it "feels" cooler under hood with the Ceramic coated headers. You feel lots less radiated heat, for sure.

I have ceramic all the way to the CAT [ long tubes and pipes] and plan on doing the rear Y pipe when I replace them, soon.

One good example, [not very scientific], but during the emission test, last week I was standing just watching the heat waves float up at the back of the car.

The tech remarked that there was a lot of heat, we popped the hood and it was cooler than standing in the rear. He found that strange.

Now, this from somebody that makes his living at the back end of cars all day.

So.............?
