We seem to have a good sized group of people with a vibration associated with speeds of around 75mph and very similar characteristics. I would like a little better understanding of the percentage of C4 LT1 and LT4s that vibrate. I don't know at this point if it exists with A4 and M6 both. If yours used to vibrate and you have fixed it, please respond with what and how.
In case you don't know how to vote, just click on the entry you want to vote for. Example: "My LT4 vibrates" click on it to cast you vote and the talley will change.
Just adding this information so that anyone unfamiliar will know what to do. I know all the regulars know what to do!!!
Mine does, but it didn't start until I was taught the evil joys of powerbraking. :nono: I doubt very seriously that the powerbraking cause it. Yea right.
Mine did, but I haven't noticed it since the new gear (went to 4.10's) but i have only put 100 miles on since then....and only the last 10 or so were above 60 mph..ill let you know.
in spring
Little bit(L98) I have NO Clue how many miles the D44 that resides under the car has now...and NEVER changed the wheel bearings. U-Joints(all) we're changed last fall, and we're checked recently...still good. I don't let the vibration bother me. Turn up the radio :)
Not too much of a response today. I was hoping for some numbers that would indicate better if this is indemic or unusual. Still can't tell with the low numbers. Help by voting. I still think this is more prevelant that people think
My LT4 shakes like crazy between 55 and 75. I feel the shake coming somwhere from the rear of the car, but there is enough of it that my steering wheel shakes. It started doing it even before I got the new rims and tires.
I had a very nasty steering wheel shake on certain roads at 60-65mph, and never at other speeds. Found a loose front wheel bearing, and replaced both fronts. So far it seems like the vibrations are gone. Need to do more testing to be sure :)
It seems as though we are at ~50% on those with this vibration/hum/drone at around 75 mph and 1 person who personally vibrates and probably can't tell if the car does. Any body else want to chime in. I am real interested in anyone with an LT4 that had the vibration as described above that has eliminated it. If that person exists, what did you do.
My LT1 has never vibrated, and now that I have the RD Racing Cross Bar, the car feels solid. I can't believe, after 2 weeks of driving with it, what an improvement the bar makes. Can't wait until it warms up so I can take the roof out and see if it helped the "wet noodle affect" :yesnod:
My Z51 '86 vibrates. :mad It seems to vibrate mostly between 65-70 before or after there isn't any vibration. I had it 4-wheel aligned a few months ago and they said the upper ball joint had a little too much play in it. They have probably never been changed so I am assuming this is it.
Well I found out my main cat was damaged (plugged) so instead of buying another one I banged the hell out of it untill all the stuff came out. So I will likely have to buy another cat in late August before it is time for registration. :bs O'well, hopefully I will have some headers in with dual bullet cats by then.
