Default First Mods

Ive searched and found nothin..

Well im ready to start modding my Vette.. Unfortunately i really dont know much about modding out V8s.. I just came from a turbo 4 cyl car.. And honestly, my turbo 4 would just walk my Vette and i dont like that at all.. So i was wondering what my first mods should be IN ORDER? Ill probably be taking it to the track, but it is mostly a street car.. Its just not cutting it for me right now though, so help me out!

Thanks,

Shane

First, we need to know what year Corvette you have, so we know what engine you have. And post up pics of your new 'Vette, we like pics around here!

Most C4's should be able to hang with a turbo 4-banger, though the stock '84's (maybe early L98's also) might have trouble keeping up. I don't claim to be an expert, though, so someone here will correct me if I'm wrong. I know my '93 LT1 6-speed (has a cam kit in it) can hang with my brother's twin turbo V6 3000GT. He's a little quicker off the line, but once we hit 2nd gear, then 3rd, I pass him.

Also, do a search here on the forum using the word "mods", lots of people have asked that question. You might find some good info.

As a first, you could cut your air lid, (if you don't have an 84) install a K&N or other high performance air filter then install bigger runners (Arizona Speed and Marine, SLP, Edelbrock, TPIS), better base (or port it), and port or have your plenum ported.

That should give you a good boost.

You should probably do exhaust (headers, bigger piping, free flowing mufflers) before you do the intake work. If you don't live in a place where you have to get emissions testing, you could gut your catalytic converter for some free hp (i did) if you can't afford bigger exhaust piping right now

I'm working on mods for my LT1 right now. One of the first things to decide is what your budget is vs how much hp gain you want vs how long do you want to take. I decided I wanted to get to around 400hp and have a budget of around $3000. I will end up going over budget. But I will also need to get it all done at once instead of stretching it over months/years. This is just an example. Do you have a goal and budget?

turbo of course... the only way to compare a vette to a turbo 4 is to give the vette the same mods LOL
intake, exhaust, gears, the whole car can use some upgrades, then you will walk your 4 banger, it is just physics

more is better LOL

Yea ive got a 84, auto.. Budget really isnt a factor, this will just be a project over time. My turbo car isnt stock either.. It gets up and goes..

Im just looking for what i should do FIRST to get the most gain.. Well what i can do first out of everything that i can actually do first.. If that makes sense.

Since you have an 84, you have the crossfire injection. Some people hate on the 84 but it still has potential. I think that would be the best thing for you to do right away. Since you are down that far, you could do cylinder heads also.

Look up some threads by CFI-EFI....the best thing you can do is open up the intake.

Do a search on porting the Crossfire intake. You can do it yourself. Full 1.6 RR's will help quite a bit and a true dual exhaust will help.

After you have done those things you can reassess where you are.

I agree with porting the stock Crossfire intake manifold which is actually restricted from the factory. Join the Crossfire Injection Vault for a lot of specific Crossfire mods. http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/

There are Many varying opinions on the X-Ram intake manifold compared to a stock Ported crossfire intake manifold.
