After pulling fuel rail and checking the injectors I have found that 5 of them were not within the parameters( all injectors within one ohm of each other),I was thinking of going with the Accel 24lb. injectors from Summit($230),any luck with these guys?
I put a set in my 85 from summit about 3 months ago and they haven't given me any problems. Just make sure you read the little slip that tells you where to put the clip. Good Luck
I doubt very very much that a one ohm difference has any significance in the performance of your injectors. A much more valueable measurement is the inductance and "Q" of each injector coil. I found a defective injector by measuring the coils with my impedance bridge. I replaced it but it made no difference in engine performance. It turned out to be too far advanced ignition timing.
I just had my injectors cleaned and found out I do not have the original injectors (Bosch). My are after market made by Siemons and Tamko. These are not good injectors. They are "disc" type injectors. The Bosch are "pintel" type.
When compared to the spray pattern of the Bosch injectors, they "pee" a straight line into the cylinder and the Bosch spray a fine mist. This gives better effeciency and power.
The Ford injectors are also cheaper than the Bosch, but not as efficient. I know this because I watched them test the spray pattern in glass tubes.
Better off to have yours cleaned than buy cheap injectors. You get what you pay for.
91,
I am not sure about the ACCEL injectors. They may be okay. Anybody know?
All I know is I saw the test and my goal is to get back to the Bosch. Only trouble is they are expensive. I was quoted $161.00 each by a dealership. They said I could get them for $102. each if I bought 8. TLD has them for $80.00 each, I think. TPiS sells them for $55.00 each, though.
I think it would be worthwhile to check on the ACCEL to see if they are "disc" or "pintel". I was told I would notice a BIG difference with the Bosch.
Check with Jeff Kopp, he recently quoted me 61.36 for a stock GM injector, puts you right around $500 bones with shipping. About twice as much as the Fords, but I thought the Ford Motorsports were made by Bosch? and that's why everyone likes them.
89 to 96 are multech injectors which is a jiont design between Bosh and A/C Delco. 85 started out with Bosh but replacements were Lucas and change to higher pressure fuel pressure regulator. 86 was also a Bosh but were changed to Lucas in the field due to cloging problems. 87 and 88 were A/C(which were not very reliable poor meching lead to most having to be replaced because of leaking) but again were serviced with the Lucas. And 89 started the use of Multech. Now with this said Bosh is pintel, A/C was a pintel, Lucas is disc and Multech is ball. Pintel are prone to clogging and deformed spray pattern, disc don't have to much of a problem with clogging but may have problems with operation with very high fuel pressure. Mutech don't have a problem with clogging but if the car sits a lot they can stick(then just give them a rap on the side and in most cases will start working ) but you are unable to use in the fuel rail cleaners because of the gas cooled coils can be shorted out if the cleaners wash the insulation off the wires. From what I have see the Fords have gone to a disc style at least that was true for the last set I installed on a car. The Accell apear to be a pintel style, I install a set on a friends car and did not have any problems. Your 91 should have had Mutech injectors and should have olny been replaced with the same. If you have two different injectors on your car that in and of it's self could give you problems, it could be that it may have had a problem with a few of the injectors and instead of rplacing them with the correct ones they though they could use the early replacement injectors. What color are the injectors do you have? Bosh are black with a brown top, Lucas are black with a silver base and a green stripe(some of the early lucas didn't have the green stripe) . A/C are all blace thinner then the Lucas and a long thin baseof silver. Multech are fat light gray with a silver base.
I just had Accels put into mine. Car never ran better. I shied away from the Fords because of there rich idle and maybe lean WOT condition. Summit said my 91/L98 took the Accel 21#ers and that's what I had installed. Accels quality control seems to have improved as that was there only reported drawback....Frank
MY 91 has 111,000 miles.........just pulled the rail........have NO IDEA if the injectors are stock or not........have most of the repair records since it was a one owner car.......cant see that they have been replaced. How long is their life span?? If they are the originals......should I replace them?? Car ran great and was mechanically sound...other than the intake leak which I am fixing now. I have NO IDEA how to test these things to tell if they are OK...
