Default Well. I'm back.

Hi all. I posted a thread awhile back about my car ("Well I'm 16 and...). Well I'm back. After a very crazy summer, my car still isn't up and running, although it has been off and on. I'll go ahead and give you a run down of everything that happened.

I got the car, and a month later I dropped a new tranny in it (700R4). After that I drove it for a short period of time (2 maybe 3 days?) Then it blew a head gaset.... So I pulled the heads ect ect. The heads either were not torqued right, OR someone didn't use new head bolts. I say this because every other bolt was torqued. I know someone had been in the motor because the old gaset was a Fel-pro, once I got the heads off, the pistons were forged and read .030 over. I thought "OK, someone has been through the motor. I wont worry about it. I'll just go with it and drive it." Well, that was a mistake. I got everything put back together, and after 4 days, I spun a rod bearing (Oil temp hit 325, but coolant was about 210, I was driving down a paved county road heading home.). So, after that, I decided to just pull the engine. I looked everything over and some of the bearings scored the crank. But, I was happily surprised to see that the crank has been milled, blueprinted, and balanced. Also, the rods measure 6 inches. I believe that a 6 inch rod with .030 piston is 383? Anyways, now I'm having the crank turned, and the body painted while I'm waiting on the crank to come back. My questions are as follows:

1, I want to ditch the cross fire. I'll keep everything in case I want to put it back on. I'm thinking a 750cfm carb and a nice intake manifold would be good. What all do I need to do to make this happen? Will there be anything computer related to deal with?

2: How do I get rid of the smog pump, and the cat? I'd love to put straight pipes back to a Flo master ( I had this setup on a camaro and loved the way it sounded.)

I'd like to hear any input about everything i have going. I'm 16, and my dad and i are doing our best to get this put together before a car show in September.

Thanks for all your input.

Bryan

I can only answer one of your questions, number 2.

The smog pump and cat..depends if you want the catalytic converter completely gone, or do you want it to just be hollow? I hollowed mine out and noticed a bit of pickup in acceleration. And for the smog pump, you can use a pulley, or you can take the pump out and get a shorter serpentine belt.

You can use a pulley like one of these: http://tpis.com/index.php?module=cat...=AP+Delete+Kit

BTW, congrats on the 383!

6" rods do not really mean you have a 383. Lots of 350s have them. That does indicate someone spent some $$ trying to put together a good motor. THe forged pistons are a good thing also. No computer issues when going to a carb but you lose the MPG functions on the dash. To change it over you neeed a fuel regulator, and a non computer distributor. Good luck and have fun with your project.
