Default Questionable results from mods

I just bought my first vette about 2 months ago. It is a 94 6 speed with 40K original miles. At 34,704 miles the previous owner had the engine rebuilt with the following:

383 eagle stroker assembly, ported and polished heads and manifold, hot cam, and 1.6 rr

The owner supplied all paperwork for the parts and labor and included a dyno printout. The printout shows max hp as 313 and max tq as 339.

I love the car as it is incredibly clean but the power seems low for the mods. What do you guys think????

sounds like a 350 to me or running on less cylinders. I expect min of 450 + on a 383 and since it is lt1 intake I would expect more

Does the dyno show rear wheel horsepower or power at the crankshaft?

Those numbers look like a stock LT1 with a Hot Cam.

That sounds very low...........I wonder if he pulled a fast one? And then, how could you tell the bore/stroke without opening it up?

Maybe he just did the cam & rockers?

It is at the wheels. Guess he could have pulled a fast one. But it sure seems like a lot of paperwork. I got invoices from Summit and from the shop showing vin numbers. Maybe poor tuning or no tuning.

Even with the stock tune the numbers should be considerably higher.

What type of dyno? (mustangs generally are more stingy than dynojets)

How high did they spin it? (revs are your friend on a dyno)

Does it have heavy rear wheels (car with heavy wheels will dyno lower than same car with lighter wheels)

Supporting mods? Headers/exhaust/ported intake etc

IMO you will never see 450 RWHP, 383 and hotcam in the same sentence.

Most importantly top end makes most of the power (heads/cam/intake etc) so a 383 with same mediocre top end may not make any more HP than a 350 the difference will be that the power will be made at a lower RPM

....and if many times ported (modified) heads are installed on a short block built by a normal SBC guy engine end up with less compression than stock due to a larger combustion chamber. LT1s love compression. (mines a RCH more than 12 to one and runs on pump gas without detonation or knock retard)

Here are the answers I have. As stated earlier, I bought the car as is. I have not done anything to it.

I don't know the extent of headwork done, but I am pretty sure it was minor and the valves were left stock.

Peak tq occured at about 3500 rpm and peak hp at about 5750 rpm. I don't know what kind of dyno it was on.

The exhaust is all stock from the manifolds to the tail pipes.

I know it should be higher so I was either lied to or some shop just slapped parts together.

Should I maybe get it tuned.????

It was not bought from vettemed. I bought from a guy in west palm beach. It was not through the forum.

You can always pull the pan and see if the block has been clearanced for the (stroker) crank.

a 383 may make 20 more hp but a hot cam is quite a small cam for a 383.. with the stock exhaust i would imagine that is where your hp is being choked out..

Maybe it was vettemed's car. I only know by his real name as I bought it locally and not through the forum. The real question is what to do next.

Tune, cam, ported intake, or exhaust?

I know all 4 should be done but having a desire to stay happily married things need to be spaced out.

Maybe you have a nice 383 just waiting for some finishing touches. Extract that horsepower man. This is going to be fun. Keep us posted.
