Default 4+3 clutch bleeding question???

I changed out the master and slave cylinders yesterday on my 87 with a 4+3 transmission. My question is when bleeding the system where should the slave's plunger be? Should I have it pushed all the way in? The service manual doesn't mention anything about this. Thanks.

Let the plunger get pushed to the clip, then start bleeding. The push rod is easily installed by pushing the plunger back, after bleeding the system.

That's what I tried to do last night but the plunger was really firm and wouldn't push back in when filled with fluid. I opened the bleeder and was able to push the plunger in easly that way. Maybe I'll try again today, it was late and I was tired so I could have been making a dumb mistake somehow. Thanks Agent 86.

Make sure there is enough room in master, when you push the plunger back. The path from master's res to slave is open, until the master travels about 1/16", which closes the port to master's res and allows hydraulic pressure to be built up.

Doh... that was it. I didn't check before opening the bleeder again and pushing the plunger in that I put the cap back on the master and it was over filled. lol, like I said it was late and I was tired. Thanks again Agent 86.

If you still can't push the piston back, check to see if the clutch pedal/master push rod is not fully back and keeping the res port closed.

When you bleed the cylinder be you have it at the highest point, push the cylinder up as high as it will go with the nipple pointing up. This the only way to get all the air out.
