I will be focusing soon on installing the FAST system, and I thought this would be a good time to mount some gauges, and install a shift lift possible behind the vents.
I am looking at a clean install, and something that looks awesome.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to buy, and better yet, does anyone have any pictures?
I have seen a few air/fuel guages that look good, but I dont know how well they operate. What is available for the C4 in regards to pillar mounts, and what gauges would one put in there?
I am not doing this to look cool (my car looks cool allready) . If it's not functional, then it's a waste of time.
Shift light in '89 AC vent
Shift light "on" (daylight)
Shift light "on" (night time)
The bulb (194 front firing 4 LED amber bulb) in the shift light is not the one it came with...it comes with a regular 194 halogen bulb. I put the LED bulb in because I had laying around and because it is bright as hell.

I think you'd be hard pressed to beat the price on this adjustable light.
My car is an autosmatic...so I really don't need the light.....I had the shift light already and thought I'd install it for fun when the "new/rebuilt" engine went back in a few months back......partly to see how far off from quick the "digital" RPM gauge is in comparison......surprisingly the response/lag time of the atari's digital RPM cluster isn't very far off the mark at all.
Truth be told....I had seen the post that CF member SLT94LT1 linked to one of the responses above....that post is where I drew my installation ispiration.
A shift light can also big fun. The first time I gave my girlfriend a ride with the new engine installed I opened the engine RPMs up until the shift light came on, which by the way lights up the entire cockpit area when activated at night, and yelled "oh ****....she's gunna blow"! The look on her face was "priceless" .....so yeah I was glad I installed it.
A buddy of mine put in a Raptor one in the vent, though in the later dash design. It seems pretty helpful for shift points.
To me the only downside I think is that in order to play with the RPM points, you have to take the dash back apart. That seems to me like it would be kinda annoying until you got it "dialed in" with how you shift. If you were going to do a pillar mount, the shiftlight would probably be more visible, and easier to fiddle with the activation points.
Edit: Also, your car has an "upshift" light on it for economy, right? Can that be programmed to come on as a shift light as well? I know they are not very bright, but would be neat as long as it's there. I had my "shift" light programmed back on, though unfortunately it has a data width limit of something like 6,350 rpm, so it comes on way early. Still, it's there anyway, so it may as well be somewhat useful.
Wire the stock interior lights to turn on when you have to shift
I remember once my buddy had a shift light in his honda I swapped out his bulb with a flood light off my parents lawn. we did make a youtube video titled something like 'american drivers aid' or something. The flood light didnt just blind you it lit the car up, and the whole street behind it
All kidding aside, I'm asuming you want a shift light because of the Atari dash. I would just suggest something not so bright and very discreet inside a vent.
