Default Which way does the crankshaft turn?

i have to reset my distributor, and was just wondering which way it turns if you're facing the front of the motor?

my guess is clockwise but i want to make sure before i blow anything up.

Thanks!!

one more question, does the timing mark have to be at 0 or at 6 degrees btdc?

because my FSM says 6 and the haynes manual says 0..

The idea is to note the rotor position before you pull the distributor body so you don't have to guess where to drop it back in. If you didn't make a note before pulling it or you did note its positoin but rotated the crank with the distributor out you'll want to drop the distributor back in so the distributor's rotor is at or on the #1 while the crank is on or very near "0". You'll want the unplug the ESC wire once the distributor is in check adjust and then set the initial timing around 6 degrees before "0" .....you may have to hit the gas pedal a little to get it to start to check it with a timing light. Set the base timing to 6 BTDC and then plug the ESC connector back together.

To just fire up the car anywhere between 0* and 6* would work

Don't forget that the crank spins around twice for every one time the rotor turns. You have to make sure the motor is on the compression stroke at tdc when the rotor is pointed to "1, not the exhaust stroke. Otherwise the car will not start and you'll hear a lot of popping.

If you are on a factory tune, a lot set to 8 degrees before TDC for a little extra power.
