Default How Big Can A SBC Get?

Just wondering how many CI's you can squeeze out of a 350 block before getting into deep...stuff.

A 350 block can easily be made into a 383, a 396 is fairly easy but getting more complicated and a 408 is pretty involved.

with a "350 block" I imagine you will have a hard time going past 409.
to other cubes, you will need a "400 block"

I run a 408 (some would call it a 409, but it really is a 408.17cid) in a factory L98 block for many years. I have also built a pair of 421s in the same L98 type block, but would not recommend it (way too much clearance work and high dollar parts).

I have a 447 in a 400 based block, but again some expensive parts. There are many aftermarket alternatives that make these large cube builds much easier. I think Jim has the same basic config but with a larger bore (0.010 larger bore) that sits at 450CID. That is the largest that I have seen in the vettes (of course not including BBCs).

And if i had to do it again, I can add additional boost easier than putting together a super exotic build with more cubes. Boost overcomes cubes easily.

Look at the quoted $$$ some of the guys here have in their smaller cube engines. Close to 10K is not uncommon.
You think you are saving $$ by building your own , but when you add up what you actually spent

less to buy one done unless youre stuck on DIY;just ignore how much its really going to cost..sunk 12k into a lousy 350, was shocked when I added it all up.
The margin these days is tiny so they have to crank them out in volume.

shafiroff has a 472 smallblock setup, 950 hp race motor

But yeah, going over 396-401 in a 350 based block is getting pushy and expensive

I am totally discounting the after market block stuff but 468 ci is available for stock bore centers and +500 with the GM racing ROX architecture

limit on bore size is about 4.090 for some lt1 blocks, and 4.065-4.070 for some L98 block. Note I said some not all.

Crank limit seem to be 4.00". Still need stroker rods, but most rods will work. 4.00" also requires triming of the block to clear the 4.125" is possible using every trick in the book.

BUT CI DOESN"T GIVE YOU POWER!!!!! stroker help flow restricte parts get more torque at a lower RPM. Get some HEAD, then CAM, then intake, then exhaust, then power will be yours.

"So Wes why do you have a 427ci SBC?" I am purposely using Race heads (ported AFR 227cc) which I want all of it available at lower RPM vice 7500 rpm. I am using a much smaller cam (10 deg less) as well to be sneaky
