just wondering from you engine guru's what is some must do things in order to break in an new engine or rebuilt one the right way??? any thoughts. Neptune75....
I would recommend taking it easy the first 1000 miles. Keep an eye on the gauges and an ear open for any unusual noises. At a 1000 change the oil and have fun!
GM recommends taking it easy for the first 500 miles for the C6Z06. With a new motor, I change the oil after a couple hundred miles and then at 2000. Everyone does it differently. With a race motor, you can't really drive it on the street so the track is where it is broken in.
if the engine is built right then there is no need to break it in, it should be ready to go. if you built it in your back yard then you might want to give it a couple miles till you floor it.
Feel free to use the entire RPM band (within reason) just don't "stomp" on the gas for a few hundred miles. Watch the gaskets/plugs/seals for leaks and check the fluids for the first few heat cycles. Change the oil/filter after ~500 miles. Hit a thousand miles then drive it like you stole it. The hardest part of breaking in a "new" motor is not "stomping" on it....good luck with that.
