Ok I got a DUI and needed to put a blow and go in my 85 took to a shop to have installed but when they hooked it up they couldn't start car they say it's my problem I told them I drove the car for seven years no starting issues any how the security light flashes and won't start the only way I can start is if I use a screw driver on the starter with the egnition on. I have no pelit in my key I here'd I can remove the fuse on the theft system but I don't know where it is I've disconeted battery for a hour still nothing I can't believe they are making me fix this .need help
Yes, I'm sorry, there was another difference between '84 and '85. The '84 gets power to the Horns and Horn Relay from the CTSY/CLOCK Fuse, so pulling the Theft Fuse on the '84 doesn't stop normal Horn function. On the '85-'89 the Horns and Horn Relay are powered from that Theft Fuse behind the DIC, so removing that fuse disables the Theft Deterrent System as well as normal Horn function. I'd forgotten that, again my apologies.
At this point you either have to get to the Theft Deterrent Controller, up behind the Breadloaf (between the ECM and Breadloaf), or just disable the Start Interrupt function on the Theft Deterrent System using the jumper as I explained earlier. If you go for the Theft Deterrent Controller route, you can either replace it with the spare you have to try to fix it or just pull the connector to disable the Theft Deterrent System completely. It's a single row black connector with 13 cavities, two of which are empty.
No I copied this I'm tryn to find the security system to remove the fuse hopefuly to correct the problem I know where the ECM is and if the the security system is behind the ECM I not sure what I'm looking for.
The fuse is in behind the DIC; the display panel that has your warning lights above the center console.
The starter enable relay is there as well , you can just bypass it.
Are you opening your doors the correct way so security is turned off?
Not sure what you mean I don't lock the car now in the past I've used the key to turn off the alarm that went off but this doent correct the problem of not starting. How do I bypass and what about the fuse that enables the security system what's the easiest to do
Ok car still won't start i tried to bypass the purple wire and green white wire no start still. Pulled fuse nothing don't know what the breadloaf looks like or located at. The only way to start is with screw driver. On starter. Can anyone route me to the correct anti theft diagram for a 85. This is really upsetting.
Unplug the clutch safety switch (gear switch at the base of the gear shift if auto) and jump the switch socket. The jumper must have 12v on it with the ign sw in crank position or the ign switch is either defective or the rod that goes from the ign lock to the ign sw is out of line and not fully activating the ign switch.
Maybe one of your arm/disarm switches in door locks are not working. Maybe trying to unlock the other door, might work.
85 uses the same controller as 86, except 86 doesn't use the starter interrupt. My info says terminal "E" and "L" were used for starter, jump these 2 and you should be all set, if the controller is the one giving grief.
I have a similar issue. The car started fine (kinda) I have been restoring an '84, anyway the starter always cranked. I just took the kick panels off and radio out and the car will not even crank now. Is this the same issue with the Theft?
It sounds like the 1985 does not have a starter relay behind the DIC. I am having a starting problem on my 1985 automatic. If i jiggle the shifter back and forth, the car will sometimes start. I have been told the problem might be with the neutral safety switch. Has anyone changed their neutral safety switch and how hard was it? I feel like running wires to the starter solenoid and starting the car with a button like I did on my truck because of a starting problem.
I haven't seen a response from vettlag to see if he got his problem fixed.
It sounds like the 1985 does not have a starter relay behind the DIC.
per RayQ
84 and 85 have starter INTERRUPT relay
Starter Interrupt Relay was part of the '84-'85 theft deterrent system ( see circuit diagram below )
Same relay in same location as shown in pic , but wired to different contacts to perform a slightly different function than the starter ENABLE relay used by VATS cars
the vats system is the worst thing chevy invented how it works is if you open your door without the key and they are unlocked it will not be enabled however if you couldnt open your car one day so snuck in some how then the vats system is enable until you stick your key into the door. i had the same problem with my car but my door locks werent working so i couldnt fix the problem.if your still having problems tow it to a chevy dealer they should know how to disable it
