Default Temp Sensors

I replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets on the engine. With the headers, I guess they produced a lot of heat and melted the temp sensor. Is there a temp sensor on each head? Or is this a sensor for something else? Both sides are melted. And once I replace them, what is the best way to protect them from the heat???

What year model? Different years/ options means different sensors.
Generally the one in the pass side head w/ spade terminal is gauge sensor; one in drv side head with button syle connector is fan switch.
I have had headers for 6 years and the sensors have not melted.

It's an 86. One of my mechanic friends said to wrap them in aluminum foil once I replace them (Only the best for my baby!). I am assuming the headers melted them...or the fact that they are 20 something years old!

'86 will be as above.
You will only have a sensor in the drv side head IF you have the aux fan option (mounted in front of radiator)

I think you might have got your $$$ worth if the sensors have not been changed before
