Default Radiator flush/refill!

Hey all

i finally got my heater core out of the vette, it's a 90 model! after finding all the hidden bolts argh!!(won't be doing that again)
anyway i am going to flush the radiator and refill it while replacing the core!
My questions are on the 90 model the radiator pressure cap is up near the windscreen! is this where i can refill the radiator? or do i have to take off the plastic cover over the radiator?(is there another pressure cap there?) thanks

also what coolant do i use? i think i read that models prior to 94 don't use antifreeze!? and i do live in Perth W.A so it's not like it gets below 0 degrees C here!
is normal coolant with that glycol... stuff adequate?

Yes, the 'radiator cap' on the 'surge tank' (black tank near windshield) is where you fill the cooling system.

THere may also be a 'bleeder' underneath the throttle-body (brass regular-screw-driver type).

1990's (and all cars) do require anti-freeze. However, your year does NOT use 'Dex-Cool'. It uses old style 'green' ethylene glycol anti-freeze with silicates.

Suggest either Texaco or Zylex brand, make sure it's their 'old style' green version.

Thanks, i am glad i don't have to mess around with taking the plastic off! unlike most radiators which have the cap on the radiator itself!, the vette is way better, easier access!
We have coolant that has that glycol stuff and then we have antifreeze!, hmmm i will have to have a look at them at the shops!

To make sure you are getting the right coolant, it should say

GM 1825M somewhere on the label.

Good luck.

I went with Zerex G-05 coolant as had been recommended here. It is supposed to last longer and not sludge up compared to the green stuff, and isn't a Dexcool clone.

Ok thanks

i bought an Australian brand for our conditions called Nulon, it's antifreeze, antiboil, and something else, can't recall from memory!
but seems to be the best stuff we have! it's a concentrate so need to add water!
