Where can I attach chains to lift my LT1 and 4L60e together ? It was delivered on a pallet yesterday and is going in an 87 Jeep YJ that I have torn down to the frame. I need to test set it in to align my motor mounts.
I have a hoist and load leveler and don't want to buy the hooker device, mainly for time's sake.
When I was moving around my spare L98/ZF6 I used chains bolted to the front and rear of the heads. One bolt in front on one side and one bolt in the rear on the other. It would have been nice to have a leveler but it lifted the assembly w/o incident.
I did not have a leveller, but it went as smooth as it could have gone.
I attached the chain using the intake manifold bolt holes, the front one on the left side and the back one on the right side. Of course, I have the 700r4, but I don't think there is more than a couple pounds weight difference.
I use the cylinder heads bolt holes, too. Passenger side FRONT and driver's side REAR.
I make sure that the grade 8 bolts I choose can screw in until almost bottomed out in the head but don't extend more than an inch from the heads. This prevents the weight from applying any excessive bending loads to the bolts.
Remove anything that contacts the chain, like maybe the throttle body or valve cover(s) to prevent the chain from breaking them once load is applied to the chain. A folded towel(s) prevent the chain from scratching other parts.
Hope this helps.
