If I remember right these were 150 mph cars when new.
On my 91 the Governor hit at 125mph. But my 94 don't seem to a have a governor on it. I hit 135 in it in 5th gear. After 100 it was rattling like crazy. (my car not corvette's) Until I get new weatherstripping. and things tight no more over 100 trips for me.
BTW This reminds me of a myth I head long long ago. And I have always wondered if it is true. I remember back in the late 80's and early 90's people said that if you turn the emergency flashers on, On a GM car/truck if would lift the governor. I was told that GM designed it like that for government and emergency vehicle's.
Now that im older, It don't seem to make much sense. But anyone know if this is true or have heard about it before?

There is a governor? I have never heard of that before....
My car certainly doesnt have a governor. It's called drag limited!
Unless somebody modified the prom, you should have been good to 145+.
Rough crowd
but you are correct no speed limiter in the C4 and a 12Xmph top speed means somethings amiss .....C4s were slippery for their time and the 1984 C4 with only 205 HP could hit 140+ the 1985 hit 150 in numerous magazines.....the LT1s hit the 160s in a couple of magazine tests and the ZR1s were even faster...
I have topped out my 1987 Vert at 150 Mph twice on a cool 60 degree nights with little humidty in the air. When the outside air temps are 80 to 90 degees out, my 87 vert. will run 147 to 148 Mph.

My car has plenty of oomph, more than I'll ever need.
I've been up to 180 on a Kawasaki ZZR1200 and that
quenched my thirst for speed, not to mention what it
did for my mild case of constipation.
Speed seekers and Corvettes are synonymous; anyone
who say's he bought a corvette for the color or body
lines isn't being totally honest. Having a corvette under
you with the capability of accellerating and out manuvering
most vehicles on the road is a very tough thing to resist.
The trick is to recognize all the above, use a tremendous
amount of self-control, and enjoy a vehicle that has
become a symbol for the American dream.
