Those things get stuck on there even with all the hardware off. Pull straight up really really hard...try not to hit yourself in the face with it when it pops free.

I tugged on it really hard. It still wont budge. I removed the C clip,and lossened the small allen for the reverse spring. Is there something else that Im missing. Thank you Bill
Under the plastic plate that has the shifter numbers on it there is a silver metal piece that you need to pull straight up on to remove it. Once it is removed, the leather shifter ball comes off by turning it counter clockwise.

the metal piece as I remember it is sort of a T shape.

And you'll probably never get that wedge out by pulling or tugging. It's driven in there with a hammer. In the link I posted above is a method to get the wedge out.
