i just changed waterpump on 1994 lt1 i now have a weeping leak between thermostat housing and the pump i changed the thermostat gasket is it all right to put some permatex between the housings to try and stop the leak?? thanks in advance
It won't hurt to put it there but I doubt it will fix the leak. Your best bet unfortunately is to remove and reseal. You don't want to trust a patch job in that area. All you need is to get water from there down and into the Opti-spark distributor below the water pump. If you do your looking at major bucks for replacement plus lots of elbow grease changing it out.
It's hard for me to keep up with all the changes GM makes to their engines so yours may vary, but my 96 LT1 thermostat housing does not use a gasket or sealant between the housing and the water pump.
Also my LT1 calls for a thermostat that is different than those used in earlier (L98) type engines. Are you sure you're using the correct thermostat?
If so, I recommend you remove the housing and make sure both mating surfaces are clean, flat and free of any sealant/gasket material. While it's off, check the stat to be sure the rubber "O" ring isn't nicked, twisted, etc., and is installed correctly.
Keep us posted.

Just for the future, the housing is different than others and seals differently. The key is the O-ring has to go in correctly. There is a top and bottom, it is tapered. The housing seals within, and not on the flat surfaces as others.
