RPM Chart

I am interested to see if my overdrive unit is operational or not. I don't see an RPM difference with O/D on or off, and last night I was seeing 3000 RPM at 70MPH <1988 Car>. Is there an RPM chart available, or does this sound about right?

Your OD is not engaging, I think I'm around 1700 at 70 mph.

Thanks for the great information. I wonder what you think of this scenario. With the OD lamp on the Dash, I can downshift, and don't 'feel' anything slowing the car when I release the clutch. With the OD lamp off, I can downshift and feel the car being slowed by the transmission. Is there some feedback to the main transmission as to whether the OD is engaged?

At cruising speeds the difference between od and no od should be like night and day. Sort of like a fifth gear. If you are taching that high, it is not fuctional.
