Go pick up the December issue of Chevy Hi-Performance magazine (Barnes and Noble should have it.)

Last month they had a feature doing exactly that for every LS_ made.
They also detailed the differences, not explicitly but more than I knew before.

Lots and lots and lot and lots of trucks got 4.8's, 5.3's, 6.0's, and 6.2's, and they are every bit LSx's like the car engines.
Trailblazers (5.3L and LS2 in the SS)
LS4 FWD Impalas

the FWD application Ls-x engines are pretty cool because they come with a remote mount water pump (i.e. grand prix's with the 5.3L's)

That is an awesome article.

What I am trying to determine is the specific trim levels of the trucks and SUVs that would have aluminum block engines. Ideally, I want a 400 hp aluminum block for my upcoming engine swap project. The cars with this spec are pretty obvious, the trucks less so.

All of the 4.8 and 5.3 truck engines are iron blocks.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine
The engine blocks were cast in aluminum for car applications, and iron for most truck applications (notable exceptions include the Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS, Chevrolet SSR and a limited run of Chevrolet/GMC Extended Cab Standard Box Z71 Trucks).

That is not correct. The new body style trucks, 2009 and up got all aluminum 5.3L's.

Ok, I was basing my information on my 2000.
I was not aware they went to aluminum on the newer ones.

Thanks for the corrected info.
