Four days ago and again last night, my brake lights would not turn off when I remove the key and exit the vehicle. Does not happen every time. I shut them off finally by removing and re-installing the fuse. Any ideas what could be the problem are very welcome.
Going on the assumption it is the brake light switch. You can remove the assembly and take the cover off the switch. There is a chance the contacts sparked and welded together. You might be able to smooth out the contacts and re-spring the metal tension so that the separation force is greater.
FYI - There are 3 contacts in the switch. One for brakes, cruise and TCC lock up. Once the switch is open contacts push out from rear. Also there is no electrical connector on the other switch body with the vacuum hose.
