Open the rear hatch, have a car-knowledgeable buddy jump in the back. Put a nice looking girl in the passenger seat, they are fun to have around. Drive the car to Wal-Mart, and have your buddy watch them replace the battery, so he'll know how to do it next time. LOL, just busting on you dude. Congrats on getting a vette, there's just nothing else like them. If you search on this forum you'll find a thousand posts about changing the battery out.
Here is an instruction set for removing the battery. It worked for my 1987. Hope it helps. you are basically removing the "gill" panel beside the battery.
OK, I'll be the first. If you have and inkling you will keep the car or do any maintenance yourself, go to that famous auction site and buy a Field Service Manual. You can do very little without it. Yes, it will pay for itself on its first use.

that article is FOS...after removing gill panel screws at frt wheel opening and one 10 mm bolt at rear top of gill pnl, on 85+ no need to remove rocker panel screws, just reach into gill pnl/rocker joint with 10mm open end wrench and loosen the bottom bolt (the gill panel is 'slotted' at that 'hidden' fastener only, for 85+)...84's are not 'slotted' oem and have a hole at that fastener.
