Default 1987 electrical

Electrical question on my 87 coupe.

The rear hatch opens using the button in the console but not the switch on the end of the doors. The lights on the pillars come one when the hatch is opened but not the doors. Many of the lights in the interior do not come on for any reason and the bulbs are good.

At first I thought it was a fuse but no, fuses good.

Any ideas

Thanks in advance.

There is a timer module for the courtesy lights that also supplies power to the hatch switches in the doors.
Possibly faulty or disconnected

Exact same thing just happened to me on my 84. The lights and door switch will work off the **** for interior lights when you turn it ,but dont work when you open door. Hatch is same as yours.
I just read its a module that can be replaced but you need to take the dash off. You can buy a replacement module online, they dont make the original anymore. Its still plug and play so it works. Problem is getting to it. Its located behind the breadbox on passenger side. Its a small box and its easy to see. Getting the dash off is difficult at best. I read a few guys did it and then regretted it. Now there dash rattles and some caused other electrical problems. And I was going to try, but once I saw the screws above the steering wheel I said no. I can live without that.
Look it up. It is possible I know that. And the module can be bought. The new one does not look like the old one, but will work.
Hope this helps

Kevin

Open the door and pull on the courtesy light switch by the door hinge. If the interior lights come on, the hatch switch should work.

On my 87 I had the same problem with the passenger side switch and lights. All go through the same electrical connection on the jamb below the A pillar.

It turned out that the wires on the door jamb switch were pulled off. It is a bear getting to the wiring (have to take off the inside foot well panel). then you will need to "make" some kind of tool to thread the wires back out of the jamb hole below the A pillar to rehook them to the switch. Took a Corvette mechanic about 35 minutes to do it. But all lights an hatch release work now.
