Default Hacked wiring?

We have an 84 coupe that has an electrical problem. The courtesy lights inside do no come on except when the ignition switch is either in the "acc" or "on" positions. Then they work fine when you open the doors. The door locks and door hatch switches do not work at all.
The PO has half-arsed installed an aftermarket radio that only works on the rf speaker. Now I know in newer GM vehicles the door chimes, door locks and rear hatch are all routed through either the radio or the radio harness. Could this be my source of the electrical gremlins, or am I just grasping at straws?

If you are trying to figure out the wiring on your 84, nothing will be as helpful as the factory service manual available from Helm Inc. You'll be able to figure out where every wire goes on your car.

Yeah, I have one. I just need to find some more time! With the economy like it is I NEVER thought I'd be mandatoried into working 12 hour days! So I'm looking for any advantages I can get on finding WHERE they hacked the wiring!

Wish I could help you. I have an '84 too and am the original owner and I have hacked into the wiring many times for different projects over the years. So far everything works that I need to work, but if something fails, I might be in trouble. Good luck.

Doesn't sound like the work of a radio gremlin.
On my 86,putting the key to on, kills the lights. Something funky is going on and it may involve the courtesy light timer.
You can bypass the timer by removing the 3 white wires from terminals "A" and "D" and joining the 3 together.
This info is from my 86 FSM, but should help you find the problem area.
