I followed the inst to bypass the vats from the web page for my 87 and it worked for 1 day, the next day it would start but shut down immediatly even if you stomp the gas...What did I do?
It was the start enable relay bypass, it was fine yesturday today turn the key and it starts but its like it runs out of gas. Fires right up but shuts down.
What was your reason for doing the relay bypass?
It sounds like you have a VATS problem;
VATS has two parts; it disables the starter and also takes out the fuel injectors
Your to harsh on VATS! the only problem with the system is the wires on the tumbler. I replace my tumbler set about every 3 years and have never had a problem with the vats system. It is a high wear item that does need changing every now and then face it. I bought my 97 camaro new and it has had 3 new tumbler sets in it and has never given me a problem with no start conditions, I believe the vats in it is the same as what C4 vettes had (correct me if I'm wrong) looks like the same passkey my 90 vette has at any rate.
While my changing the tubler set every 3 years isn't because it has had problems I just had it done to keep the system from having problems. For what VATS is it does a good job of keeping a thief with a hammer and screw driver from taking the car and with preventative maintenence it shouldn't ever give you trouble.
once the ecm gets signal from vats to enable, the ecm will remain in 'run' mode even if vats signal cuts off, until 'key off'...check voltage on white 'signal' wire to ecm pin B6 with 'key on' (running or not), will be abt 2.5vdc if vats is happy, 5.0vdc or 0 vdc indicates problem.
as your car cranks and fires up momentarily, appears vats is happy.

How much does that cost to replace the tumblers? Sounds like I'd rather do that than trying to mess with those electronics
You know you can just get a dongle with the proper resistor value, unplug the wire from the cylinder on the column and plug it in and you've eliminated the column and key from the mix. You can even use a no resistor key if you like and the car won't know the difference. Best thing with the dongle it's all plug-and-play so you can return it back at any time and not have anything modified.
