Default Pulling Steering column lock plate Question

Hello everyone.

I've got a problem that I need a little advise with.

I've pulled hundreds of steering wheels in my time but none were telescoping columns.....until today.

What's the method (or tool) I need to use to release the locking plate?

Since the shaft isn't stationary the ordinary lock plate tool won't work.

I searched the forum for a similar thread but didn't find one.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I use the regular tool like this Vatozone will loan it to you and the steering wheel puller too. I use two dental pics to remove the little locking clip....at times it is a PITA to remove.

from tool description.....
Depresses lock plate to allow easy removal and re-assembly of snap ring. ... Set screw locks telescopic column in place while depressing lock plate. ... 3510: GM Steering Wheel Puller Legs Please see individual item number on this

Here's a thread on an older telescoping columned vette....however, procedure looks similar to my 95's tilt column

That is pretty close for the '80s C4s as well.

Note: watch out for the turn signal canceling piece (white plastic thing)you can get that thing put back in 180 out.....they will still cancel but you have to make a "U" turn before they do.....ask me how I know :o

Without that tool there is no way in hell you will be able to do job. There is so much pressure on spring behind that piece,I was able to remove that clip in front of lock-plate without that tool(that was VERY hard to do),but couldn't put it back together without that tool.Make sure it throughly check where everything is & location of every small or big piece before you remove it.My guess is you are trying to fix your loose steering column?I found it to be cheaper to just buy a used low mileage column that has no slop in column than replacing possible column housing that is common problem.Hope its just some loose bolts/screws.
