I noticed considerable wear on the front brake brackets on my high milage 1989 and just filed the area where the pad metal backings rub against the brackets. There is a groove wearing in the aluminum brackets.
Because the front brakes some timetimes have a slight pull either to the right or the left, I suspect that it is being caused by the irregular worn pad backings.
NewGMparts.com lists them for $55 each but come right down to ordering they cost over $70 each plus shipping from the classic parts warehouse.
Does anyone know a more resonably priced source to buy these brackets?
You will probably find that it will be a GM item only. The p/n looks like they are for the J55 brakes so that might explain the higher price.
GMPartsHouses.com wants $58 each (Gene Culley is a Forum Vendor). You might also try Ken Fichtner Chevrolet. Thats the "Ken's Newsletter" section of the Professional News, Article's, and Tips section of the forum. He can help too.
But according to the Superior Chevrolet website, the GM big brake abutment brackets are no longer available from GM.
