I have a 96 LT1 that runs great. The only problem is that the starter is very loud. Is this an indication that the starter is going bad or, just something i have to live with ? Can someone recommend a quiet replacement starter ?

It shouldn't make any unusual noise. If its grinding or whining the starter is probably going bad.

Nothing unusual, the car starts fine. the starter is just loud

Muffin

A high pitched whine usually generated by incorrect mesh between the flywheel and the bendix. A deeper pitch points to bearings on their way out.
