Default code 42

After sitting for a few weeks, last week I took the 87 to work on a mild day. Fired right up in the AM but when leaving for home, I had to crank it 3 times before it started. The first two cranks sounded like it does if you turn the ignition with the engine running, kinda grinding sound.(but it was NOT running) It started on the 3rd try and I got the service engine soon light (code 42). It ran fine. I have ran it twice since with no issues. What could be the cause of something like this?

Thanks

Here is what code 42 says..Electronic Spark Timing Circuit (EST)

Yes, it is plugged in. What would make it happen just once?

Have you had that connector, unplugged at all, since the last time you had a battery terminal off ?
Just wondering if it was a stored code, since a grinding noise, could be something else going wrong.

Not been unplugged since removing battery terminal. But, come to think of it, I did replace the ignition module last summer. Could have something to do with that?
