Loose front end?

Loose front end?
Last winter I rebuilt the front suspension, new poly bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends. Had it aligned. The steering feels loose. Some roads feel like the tires are finding their way in the tire ruts and the steering almost has a mind of it's own as to where it will be in the lane.
Could my steering rack be that loose?
Any other ideas?

there might be a couple teeth missing on off the shaft inside the rack.
how much play do you have in the steering wheel? you can jack the front of the vette off of the ground turn the wheel slowly back and forth. with no load on the suspension you shouldn't feel any drag or free spots while turning the wheel. if you find an issue.....if your careful with small parts and orings you could rebuild the rack yourself. if not box it up and send it to some place like SWEET MFG. those guys rebuild them and ship them back in the same day they get them.
