Did 1986 come with some type of alarm?? My boy opened the pass door an the horn started going off. Had to unplug horns. Dont know what i did to set it,or how it works.
Yep, it came with a factory alarm. Try hooking the horns backup and use your key to unlock/lock the doors. Make sure the key lock is completely vertical when you remove the key.

Do a search on VATS if you want to learn more. It can leave you stranded with no power to the Ingnition. There are bypass circuits availiable or simple DIY bypass's. I have that in my 1986.

My understanding is that the VATS and the alarm are separate systems. I'd keep the VATS bypass available as an emergency or troubleshooting procedure. Based on the forum responses the VATS has kept more than a few Vettes with their original owners.
