Default Shift Cable

Replacing this cable is a royal PITA
Coming home last night I hit something in road and trans became stuck in low.
This morning I checked under the car seems like the plastic around the cable has come loose from the housing it mounts into so I have no shift control.
Found a new cable but will have to order it.
Any tips on doing the replacement? What should I watch out for?
I have already removed the old one. Found the best way was to remove heater control head and console top so I could disconnect from shifter then slide it back and out of it’s bracket. Looks kind of straight forward on install just want to be sure I’m not missing anything.

Thanks

Actually if you had waited to take the cable out it may have been better. B&M makes one without the boot you can pull through the grommet in the floor. You connect it to the old cable and pull it through.
