Help--Engine cutting out
Hi,
My car was making a whirring whine sound, which turned out to be the bearing in my alternator. I changed the alternator, and it's fine. It did start out at 15 volts and came down to 14.5 which I think is okay.
But, on my test drive the car began to cut out. It's never done that before.
It's a 94 coupe, automatic. I changed the opti months ago, new plugs wires, and waterpump.
Any clues? Bad alternator?
This is my only car and I really need it for monday so any help you could give would be appreciated.

What "brand" did you get for the new alternator?
Recheck your connections at the alternator and battery. Checking the PCM for stored trouble codes is also a good place to look. On the next test drive watch the cluster volt meter and see if it dips as the engine cuts out.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate how great a resource formum members are.
Someone told me that it could be a result of my PCM resetting itself after the battery was unplugged. Does that sound right?
I drove it and the check engine light came on for a few seconds when I started, but went right off, and I didn't have another incident.
I'll check the codes tomorrow.

Hi,
I'm going to recheck the connections. When I did the paperclip short trick to see the diagnostics, I got this.

The service engine light keeps coming on, and it's still cutting out. I don't get it.
