Default Cam in C4

Hi I have a 1989 corvette and I wanted to put a cam in it and I was wondering if this cam would fit without problems with stock componants excluding the valve springs, eventualy I will put in 1.6rr rockers.
here is the cam part number and specs(Comp cam). THANKS!!!

part number 12-342-4
Dur 296 Int 305 Ex
Lift 510 Int 507 Ex

If not what cams out there will give it a nice idle for a fair price.

The cams listed there are flat tappets, yours is a hydraulic roller. TPIs dont like big cams at all. Opposite of a typical carbed motor

Yes, the cam will fit.

It's big, even for something like a 383 with a short runner intake it's pretty big. I wouldn't run it in a TPI car, I don't think anyone would.

Something along the line of mid 220's for duration and low-mid 500's for lift is where I would start. LT4 Hotcam from GM Performance Parts or a Comp Cams CC503. One of those would be my pick.

If you are using the stock heads, be careful with the lift. Much more than about .510 and you might start to push the retainer keepers into the valve seals. Some guys get away with more, but I would check it before doing anything over .510 or so.

Just caught the LT1 intake part...

In that case, you can go a bit larger and still be alright. I ran an LT1 intake on my car for awhile and used a Comp Cams XFI cam. 230/236 and mid .570's for lift. I am still using the cam in my 383 with no issues.

It also depends on which cylinder head you plan to use. Stock heads won't benefit from a bigger cam shaft like some aftermarket heads will, so that would affect your choice of cam.
