I have a 1990 C4. The passenger side headlight opens but only partially partially closes with the hood down. When the hood is up , the light closes ok. I read the "sticky" but that is for a full replacement, bearings type rebuilt.
What might be casuing the light to stay patially open with the hood down and then close fully with the hood up???
If your motor is getting weak......the feedback or voltage spike will be interpreted by the relay as the thing hitting the limits and cut the power.
Have someone hit the switch while you "Help" the rotation with your hand.
If it closes up, then you have your issue trouble shot.=address the motor by having it rewound or brushes or replace the whole thing....
If it still binds.....again you have your issue trouble shot.=look at the pivot point for some sort of binding, maybe the pin is getting worn or something.
check the little torx screws on the side of the headlight housing. On a couple of occasions mine have backed them-selfs out halfway and the light would get stuck.
I figured this out. The light housing was getting hung up on the 1/4" steel line connected to the coolant expansion tank. I clamped the line down and its ok.
